Rebirth

Greetings! I’m Peter, the new pastor here at Epworth. I am excited to get to know you, and continue to be more excited about the future of Epworth as I learn more and more.

Epworth has a long history, and a history of making changes to reach new people. Few churches are able to move their ministry to across town, and even fewer are willing, yet Epworth did just that. That this congregation was willing to do that shows a history of being fully committed to following Jesus.

Such change is never easy, and in many ways feels like the death of our memories, our experiences, the end of whatever it is we grieve. Death is a part of our human experience, yet we are a resurrection people who know that Christ conquers the grave, and that in Christ there is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Death has a word, but it is not the final word!

Change always includes a bit of death even in the midst of new life. Because we know Christ, we need not fear that death, but rather can openly acknowledge death and grieve. We can celebrate the new life that is coming forth while also grieving those things that are no longer. We do not grieve as those without hope, for we know that in Christ all that we have lost is reborn.

I am so excited to be a part of what God is already doing here at Epworth, and look forward to all of the ways that God will bring about new life in our midst.
