NOW HIRING: Director of Youth Ministries

Position:  Director of Youth Ministry

Time Requirements:  This is a part-time (~20/hours a week) salaried position requiring presence on Sunday mornings and some evenings, weekly staff meetings (currently held on Monday at noon), and all youth and other special events.  The remaining time and location of the schedule is flexible.

Qualifications, Skills, Gifts:  A college degree or post high school education in education or ministry preferred.  Equivalent experience will be considered.  Must be committed to the vision, values, and beliefs of the church.  Should demonstrate evidence of a Christ-like attitude in words and actions.  Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.  Should be able to recruit, manage, and encourage a team of volunteers.  Must have a heart and passion for youth and possess understanding and patience.  Must have good organization skills and have the demonstrated ability to connect with youth, organize safe activities, ensure responsible behavior, and promote the Epworth youth program within Epworth and throughout the community.  Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work with the church staff, parents, other congregants, etc.  Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a maturing faith, and an understanding of Methodist/Wesleyan theology and polity.

Description of Duties:  Will 1) develop, promote, and direct a Christian ministry to youth (6th through 12th grades), 2) plan and conduct Sunday evening youth gatherings, 3) organize events, retreats, and bible study, 4) teach, counsel, and mentor youth, 5) give oversight to youth Sunday School program, 6) retain, train and recruit volunteers, 7) participate some in children’s programs to build relationships with future youth, 8) participate in budget planning, 9) and build relationships with all age groups.  And, of course, other duties as assigned.

Responsible To:  Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)

About Epworth UMC:  Epworth UMC is a church committed to its programs for youth and children and have had a strong youth program for many years. We regularly have almost 150 in worship each Sunday.  We are blessed with a wonderful staff and enthusiastic parent volunteers.  We are conveniently located in NE Huntsville atop Chapman Mountain.
